Document Portal

The Document Portal is your secure file exchange with your accounting firm. Files uploaded here are encrypted in transit and at rest — far safer than email attachments.

Every client profile starts with two folders out of the box:

  • Unsorted Documents — a fallback for anything that doesn’t belong to a specific service. Upload here when you’re not sure where a document fits, and your accountant will file it into the right place on their side after review.
  • Permanent Documents — a read-only folder maintained by your firm for service-agnostic records that don’t change often, such as a copy of your state ID, incorporation documents, or other long-lived references. You can view and download these any time, but you can’t upload directly into this folder.

In addition, every service your firm is delivering for you has its own folder containing documents tagged to that service. You can jump to a service’s folder from the folder icon on its row in Services.

If you need something added to Permanent Documents, upload it to Unsorted Documents and let your accountant know, or message them in Conversations.

  1. Open the Document Portal from the sidebar and select the folder for the service the documents belong to. If the documents aren’t tied to a specific service, use Unsorted Documents as a fallback.
  2. Click Upload (or drag files into the page).
  3. Submit.

Your firm is notified as soon as files arrive.

Any file you can see in the portal — completed returns, signed forms, work papers, items in Permanent Documents, or anything in a service folder — can be downloaded directly. Files remain available indefinitely, so you can come back for prior years whenever you need them.

Upload the correct file, then contact your accountant and request that they disregard or remove the incorrect submission.
